Party Tips for Entertaining in the Summer Heat!

Are you planning any backyard summer parties this summer? With the recent soaring summer temperatures, you may need a few additional party tips for entertaining in the heat!

One of the first things you should keep in mind is safety. A summer party is one of the best ways to get all of your friends and family together, however, safety comes first! Keep in mind the ages of the guests who are attending your party and keep their needs in mind. If the sun gets too hot and it seems that your guests may be overheated, move the party inside. Also, plan your event for the time of day in which it’s the coolest.

Next, plan ahead! If you have a pool and you know it’s going to be a really warm sunny day, ask everyone to bring a bag of ice over and drop them in the pool to cool it down.  Make sure you have plenty of umbrellas over all outdoor seating so your guests are comfortable. If your event is inside, try and stay out of the kitchen and only serve “grilled and chilled” items.

It is also nice to incorporate seasonal items into your menu and décor. Have plenty of fruits and vegetables around for your guests to grab. Also, place flowers in small containers all around the backyard and house to add a special personal touch. Sprigs of woody herbs like rosemary and thyme are also nice to put on your table to add some fragrance. Frozen ice pop cocktails and berries frozen into ice cubes are also a great personal touch to cool off some of your older attendees!

The kids have probably been out of school for over a month now and you may be running out of ideas on how to keep them entertained! It may be time to turn those everyday summer activities into something new and exciting for the kids!

Here are a few ideas on how to make the summer more fun for your children!

It’s more than likely that at one point or another, your kids have asked to put together a lemonade stand. How about changing it up and having a bike-washing station! After-all, the benefits are a little bit cooler in the blazing summer heat! The kids can stay cool while scrubbing down their bikes and anyone passing by!

Going to the beach always seems to be a popular request! However, after a while building sandcastles get a little boring! Next time you’re at the beach and are looking for some new things to do suggest drawing lines in the sand and playing hopscotch or draw a long line in the sand have the kids pretend to be on a balance beam! You can also bury a treasure and have the kids dig to find it. Another fun idea is having the kids do a relay race and fill buckets of water and dump them off to the next person! These games are sure to be a hit among your kids!

If you’re thinking about staying home for the day, consider setting up an obstacle course in the backyard and inviting some of the kid’s friends over!

With school being out for summer, you may already be out of ideas or ways to keep your kids entertained and happy throughout the day. There are only so many times you can tell him to “watch a movie” or “play in the yard” or “paint a picture!”

Here are some out of the box ideas that are sure to bring some excitement to your kids day and provide memories they’ll never forget!

Have you ever heard of a transit tour? Plan a day to head to your local city by taking all public transportation! Take a bus, train, ferry streetcar or taxi rather than taking your own vehicle! This will keep your kids exciting and going from place to place! Stop along the way for a picnic lunch in a park or by the water! When you’re in transit, take lots of pictures that you can make a scrapbook from!

“Geo-caching’” is another interesting activity to do with your family and friends. Gather all your friends and family to your place and ask them to arrive with five to ten small items and some water bottles. Set out on a treasure hunt at a local ravine, this is an activity fun for all ages! You can also incorporate a conservation trail walk into your day!

As we all know, sometimes our outdoor summer plans get put on pause to Mother Nature! There will be some rainy days! Museums and galleries are a great way to spend the day indoors. You can take your children to your nearby museum or gallery and let them learn about local history.
